Tips from people who work in Venice every day

  • Get there before the closure. Once the Grand Canal closes, reaching a point along the route is slow: plan the move well in advance.
  • Find some shade. Early September is still hot: a hat, water and, if you can, a covered terrace.
  • Book hotels early. With the Film Festival on the Lido at the same time, rooms on the Grand Canal go quickly.
  • Check the official programme. Times and closures change from year to year: they are on regatastoricavenezia.it, and we pass them on to you.
